Good evening, could you please help me grading this coin? I like it a lot, and I might have the chance to buy it. But I don't want to overpay for it. What should a fair price be?
Thank you!

I'd call it VF-30. It doesn't appear to have any significant damage. Based on the color I assume it has been gently cleaned at some point. I don't know a fair price for this coin but the 1845-O is a scarce date. What's the asking price?

Edit: I checked the PCGS price guide and they show a value of $780 for this coin in PCGS-graded VF30. Their prices usually represent "high retail" for no-problem coins. The piece you posted should sell for somewhat less. $550 or so would probably be a fair deal. If you are specifically looking for this date you might want to pay more; they don't show up very often.

I would say VF-20, though there is little difference in value from VF-20 to VF-30, so don't sweat the exact grade. Greysheet bid is $400, but that is a September price. I suspect somewhere in the $525 to $550 range would be appropriate, as Jaobler suggested.

This is a scarce date that commands a large premium over melt value in any grade. Early last year, 2 NGC XF40s went for just over $600 on Heritage though, so be careful. The imaged coin is not close to XF and may have problems as Jaobler eluded to above.

$500 would be the most I'd pay for it and my guess is the asking price is much higher than that.

Asking price is 470 - 510 USD.
Basing on what you said, I should wait for a better looking coin (maybe XF or more). Sooner or later, it will come up.
