Without tracking down the diagnostic pics, I'm still certain this is a large date.

Large Date alas.
Three quick 'small date' diagnostic that I apply to any 1970-S ...... hope this helps ... you can see these in your own photos ....
1. The tail of the '9' in the date is pointed (Sharp) on a small date and not blunt ..... yours is blunt.
2. The top of the '7' in the date is even with the top of the '9' and '0' on a small date ....... yours is lower. Try it for yourself by holding a piece of paper on your 2nd photo above the date ...... notice the 'low seven'?
3. The last three letters in "Liberty" are always weakly struck on a small date ..... yours are worn but fully struck.
Keep on searching!

Oh woe is me alas alas then I too was thinking it was probably the large date but needed to verify with you expert folks. Thanks a lot. I'm keeping it to attract its small sister or brother home to us

It's a large date. 3 of the 4 major diagnostics are evident.
1) the top of the 7 is set lower than the 9 and the 0 2) the head of the 9 (the opposite end from the tail) is blunt and pointed towards the mint mark 3) LIBERTY is relatively strongly struck
With a small date
1) the top of the 7 is level with the 9 and 0 2) the head of the 9 is hooked and points more towards the 0 3) LIBERTY is weakly struck, especially the E and Y
The fourth diagnostic is on the 7. It is a crease where the top of the 7 meets the leg of the 7. Look at the molding around a doorframe - the diagonal line at the corners where the molding joins is what you're looking for on the 7. You can't tell by these pics whether or not the line is there.

Thanks a lot to you all for those great diagnostics for this one. I've also just been browsing sites showing examples of this 1970 S too.
Is there small and large dates for the D and P mints too? or just S? I have a D 1970 so just wondering if I need to ID the date type.

Yes the line is obvious to me too. I can also zoom on my computer to see bigger images than I can post in here. Thanks for your input Coppercoins :)

Dottir, I believe the S is the only small date for 1970.

I can see the differences to the dates and mint marks on this year and can clearly see mine is large date as well, seeing by the direction of the 9 and the shape of the S - meaning I'm learning to see what you all are seeing too!
Thank you all, and thanks Coop for the images here and in the other thread about large and small dates & MM's too :)
