Very seldom do I pick up bank rolls of nickels.
This one stood out like crazy from the others in the roll.
Too bad the pics. and scans posted do not show the real color
and detail. The edge pic. is a pretty good representation
of the rest of the coin. Color is more of a very deep dark gun metal blue. Nice even toning all around and great luster in hand.
No dings or scratches. Not a great punch but very minimal wear.
Another one of those you have to see in hand to appreciate.

From my understanding of the Black Beauties you do have one there.

I plucked 3 Black Beauty 1958's from my local B&M a few weeks ago...spent a total of $2.50 on them.

I love it! Very cool toning. You have to wonder what would have caused it. An experiment or improper storage.

Looks like a great example to me and I see steps on that reverse, which is not really all that common on that year but can be had. Nice coin!

southerngent, that is not toning. It is either "improperly mixed alloy" or a "sintered planchet", depending on which TPG slabs it.
Indian1, I had trouble capturing the luster in a pic too, and mine graded at MS63.Nice find !

It's one of those that you have to see for yourself.
Actually in hand under 8X the steps are almost all there.
Bottom step seems not worn but die wear has left a couple small
high spots along the line in places. Monticello all there, dome, triangle, columns etc. I decided to look at some other jeffersons
for grades. Never really graded these before. Rims/edges are just about perfect. Taking into consideration the real nice luster and even color
etc. it may grade higher than I originally thought. Anyway, thanks all.
might be worth a slab. I might never find another one like it. Especially in a bank roll. This would be a great color for an older
corvette.
