Hi Texas

It looks like a love token,, these were carved from real coins ,which the obverse seems to indicate,, there are collectors of these pieces.

sure nuff, a love token, and they are collectible. I actually just started a love token collection and I like that one alot. A love token was a coin that was taken to a jeweler and they engraved the intiials of the loved one into the coin, and it was given to the other loved one to remind them of the other, atleast thats how I think it worked

Love tokens are supposed to be in their own category. I have mixed emotions on love tokens in general: sentiment vs coin defacement, especially on a nice coin like this once was, but that was the tradition of the day. I had a nice 1850's-ish gold $1 love token (back had initials and a hole was drilled to hang on a chain necklace). I sold it a number of years ago since it had no numismatic value, got about the same value as an undefaced gold $1, but that was when gold was a lot lower in value, so it sold for essentially melt. As Bryan stated, there is definitely a market for love tokens such as this. I guess I'm a little surprised the seller didn't get more.

It might have helped if he identified it as such.

Good point. No coin collector is gonna want it and a love token collector won't find it. We can now get him on two counts: wrong category and inappropriate and misleading title and description. His spelling could use a little work as well: "peice"? "coimcs"? I don't think these are typos.
