Wow, nice! Looks like tinges of original brick red around the devices, very rare for 200 year old coins. I'm going with AU-53 on this one. Stellar!

Thanks so much for that nice comment busthalf :-) I purchased it raw, then sent to ANACS. I almost sent to PCGS which I probably should have done. No doubt they would have been more conservative on the grade.

I would call this XF-45+ with an old wipe, and I think you might have posted this some time ago?

I sure did SC, thought I'd see what others thought the "problem(s)" might be. Thanks man!

With the amount of red remaining I'll go AU50. ANACS regularly slabs these "Corroded" and even though I don't see it, if there's a problem noted that is my guess: "Light Corrosion".

Here it is, or at least, here it was. I was going through my inventory list and said, "wait a minute, that's right, I cracked this one out of it's ANACS holder and sent to PCGS awhile back!" It is now in a PCGS Genuine holder/code 91 (questionable color) It's amazing how one TPG sees something totally different than the other

I think the 'corroded' is unfair, personally. An old cleaning sounds about right.

I agree with a cleaning but, questionable color, whatever...they have to call it something I guess.

ANACS seems to like that "Corroded" word. I have a Seated dollar that is supposedly Cleaned and Corroded. Although I agree with the cleaned part, the corroded part is a real stretch in my opinion. I think I might suspect what they were looking at, but if this coin is corroded, there's a lot of coins that are. TPG's provide a service but at the end of the day, it's just one opinion and we've all got one. Best regards, Ken

So they are saying the rust color is corrosion? Looks like a beauty to me. Not a huge fan of grading services.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the whole coin is corroded and harshly cleaned. I'm getting really turned off by all the TPGs, especially ANACS where it seems 7 out of 10 coins they give their opinion on, has some kind of problem. Ken, could not have said it better my self. What makes these people experts? At the end of the day, it's an opinion.

I have also seen the 'corroded' label thrown around a lot, and corroded-cleaned seems to be a common dual label even on coins that don't look like it...
