Wow that's a beautiful looking piece, but I have no knowledge to know if it is authentic. It looks too nice for it to be real! Something that ncie should be in a PCGS or NGC holder if it were really authentic.

I saw that coin on e-bay. My immediate impression was that it has been cleaned or buffed. The luster does not look right to me.

Looking at the feedback and the other coins she has I would say it's legit but it does look different to me for some reason.Because they inherited the coins perhaps they polished them up for sale?

I agree it's a fantastic coin with tremendous detail.
There is, however, some wear on the top of the eagle's wings on the reverse, and that doesn't jibe with the white coloring. This leads me to suspect this coin has been cleaned and I wouldn't be surprised (though tough to tell from the small pictures) that it has been polished as well.

The coin is real but does look like it has been dipped at some point. I would grade it at AU-50.

Thanks everyone. Things just looked a bit "off" to me with that one, although I couldn't pinpoint exactly why. It's educational to know I'm not alone in that conclusion.

The appearance of the fields is very uniform which is highly suggestive of Photoshopping.

She has a 7 day return policy which is a plus. The coin does not look like orginial surfaces too me, almost too clean to be true, but with worn surfaces (reverse). Very nice if it's real, but I could not tell you either way.

100% certainty that it has been harshly cleaned. I wouldn't touch it with your money.

I don't know the first thing about cleaning or any of that other stuff, but the coin is genuine and it is in fact O-114 (R-1).
The detail missing on the reverse scroll is common to this variety, and is not caused by post mint buffing (even though nobody suggested it).

That half dollar is gorgeous and I wouldn't pause to add it to my collection at all. With the 10 clearance refund, how can you go wrong? I have an affinity for Capped Bust half dollars anyway so you know that I'm going to tell you to go for it! Please let us know how your purchase transpires.

Looks like a fairly typical AU-50 for that date. Dipped and some light wear on the reverse. If the photo is accurate, I don't think a TPG would mark it as cleaned. That said, when buying a coin that is not slabbed, it is probably best to assume it will come back as cleaned.

The seller on this is also a bit suspicious. Has a "cute girl" type photo and some nonsense about how this is a family collection she is selling off to pay for college. The coins, however, are professionally photographed and seem spruced up with the lighting/contrast to mask any problems. Did you win the auction? Curious how this one will look once shipped and in hand...
