Mick,
These coins are hard for me to grade but I have been researching one myself so I will take a stab at it,that being said my opinion on these is a blind guess at best. It looks as thou it might have been cleaned by the fine scratches on the obverse. These coins were minted in two issues, one with a date on the obverse and the first issue had no date. Most wear shows on the hair around the ear area on the obverse and on the crows nest and sails on the reverse.Yours seems to show wear in these areas and also on his sleeve where some of the crease's are worn away. I would guess AU Cleaned on this one.

Thanks for the input, TLS.

I think those lines on the obverse must be from cleaning. Probably someone thought he'd rub the tarnish off. Also, there is a (carbon?) spot right next to the '1' in the date.

If you've been researching this coin, I trust your judgement about the wear making the details AU. With the cleaning and the surface imperfections, do you think it would rate a net EF?

Anyway, I like the coin and I'm glad to have it. It's hard to be critical enough to evaluate a coin, but not to be critical to the point of not enjoying the coin. I've got to get better at that.

Mick,
I think these are nice coins no matter what condition there in.The one I was looking at was so tarnished and "carbon ed" up you could hardly tell what it was but you could still make out that it was AU-UN,unfortunatly I didn't win the auction on that one.
I would just be guessing on the grade of your.I would leave that up to someone more experienced with older Commemorates.

Unfortunately, this coin has been harshly cleaned. It would probably only net an XF or lower grade upon reselling it.
