At a local coin show today, I purchased this Bicentennial set but I have never seen this one before and can't find it listed anywhere. It is a bit unusual in the the quarter and half were minted in Denver but the medal in the center is taunting the San Francisco Mint. Does anyone know about anything about this set, how much it should be worth, why just the quarter and half and why Denver minted coins with the San Francisco medal.

In my opinion, the medal is the collest part of the set.

This was probably issued for a coin show but I don't recognize which one.

These often had quite low mintages.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Looks like a 1776-1976 Two Coin and Mint Medal Set. Not sure how many were issued but based on average selling price (~$18) they do not appear to be particularly rare.

The dollar size bronze coin is a mint medal commemorating the old San Francisco Mint.

When searching for Bicentennial mint medals found a reference to this interesting piece. Wouldn't mind finding one of those lying around given the price of AU!

"1976 huge gold (13.5 tr oz AGW) 15 tr oz medal of 900 fine gold. United States official mint Bicentennial medal. The first US mint medal struck in gold officially sanctioned for sale to the public. Sold by the mint for $4000. between Jan 1st and July 31st 1976. #63 impressed by the mint into the edge of the medal. Only 424 struck, and many have been melted. Original presentation box tattered. Nice proof with only a tiny edge test mark"

Nice set of which I've never seen before either. I have a mint medal like the one in the set depicting the San Francisco mint that I inherited from my father. Perhaps they put these in special sets released by the mint. Not really sure, but I'm enjoying it all the same.

Thanks for the good info. I guess I made out fine with my $5 purchase.
