I been interested in these for a while so I thought I would get one for my collection. There about the same size of the morgans/peace and thought it would look nice in a type set for US coins as its both us and Philippine coin http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:ITI bought from this seller before and brought the coins to a dealer and he said they were legit so hopefully it goes the same, hate to purchase outside the us. The Philipines Peso is a beautiful coin! It technically counts as US coinage too. The coin featured in the ebay auction appears to have been cleaned.

Oooh! Oooh! Oooh!I need a big, big favor, bryan1234. If there is some way, some how, you can do this, I need to know the reed count of that coin. Preferably, also a closeup picture of the reeding, kinda like this: ....or whatever you can do that's close to it, just so I can see what the reeding looks like. There's a point of research that's been sticking in my head for a couple of years, about the relationship between Morgan dollars and 1903 One Pesos. You can help immeasurably with the above information.

I have no problem doing that for you but it will have to wait about 2-3 weeks when I get the coin

That's fine, my friend. This may not pan out; I've heard a theory about design similarities which I wish to explore. Either way, it won't be "important" in the grand scheme of things, but numismatics has always been about small additions building on what came before. I hope we can add a little to it.

It must be time to jump into these here marvelous forums. Have been lurking for a month or so. I have one of these 1903's. It turned up at a recent estate auction about an hour away. It is indeed a pretty coin. This one caused me to become educated about the early issues 1903-06, and the later ones 1907-1912, which were downsized and silver content reduced. I bought fifty the latter in an ebay bulk silver deal a month previous, thinking they were 0.900 silver. There must be a fever in the air, because one of the local metals buyers bailed me out of all the non-numismatic quality ones, also thinking they were the higher silver content. And this was after checking them in his 'book'. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***
