What are you guys willing to pay for a common, circulated morgan?
I would think 1 dollar below melt is fair. I would think silver is the only value. Am I wrong? Please advise.

I think most peer to peer buyers would be very satisfied if the coins were sold at melt. Most dealers will pay under melt I never cease to be shocked when I take a coin into a local shop for evaluation. Not atypical for them to offer 50 cents on the dealer v/ grey sheet bid.

Morgan is a crazy beast, it may be a common date and be a rare VAM and even in circulated condition can bring a huge premium. Of course that is just to a VAM collector which ios a specialty crowd that even though is growing is still rather small when looking at collectors as a group

Forgive my ignorance but what is VAM? For that matter is there anywhere that explains all the abbreviations used here?

I was trying to buy some Morgans and offered the guy $20 a coin for circulated common. He took it as a personal insult saying that there in Intrinsic and numistic value of at least $3 per coin, blah blah blah. I walked.
I figure I will pay what I know I can turn around and dump it for if needed.
I really love Morgan and Peace dollars.

The Morgan dollars are what I mainly collect raw and slabbed. I wouldn't pay over 20.00 per circulated coin because you can get them in mint state for sometimes less than twice that amount.

Please do not feel dumb by wanting to ask any question, you can bet if you have a question someone else has had the same question and may not have wanted to know and just went on through life without ever knowing. At least your way you now know the answer and will not have to do the same. Also now that you have asked if someone else happens to have the same question all they will have to do is search for the question on the forum and the answer will pop up. Believe me when I first started collecting I asked so many questions I thought in the back of my mind, everyone is going to think I am an idiot but still asked and learned as I went along as I still am

SuperDave, Thank you very much. That's what I was looking for!

Bryan,I know the only way to learn is to ask. I really just didn't want to if it had been asked a thousand times before.

I appreciate every-ones help, this has proven to be a very knowledgeable group and very willing to help a new guy learn.
