Last Friday I was going to get a box of quarters from the bank I use for business near my office. I was stuck the whole day at my plant and was unable to get to the bank until Saturday when this bank would be closed. I went to the bank near my home and got my box where I was able to find 1 silver quarter along with quite a few uncirculated quarters. Not a banner day in quarter searching but not terrible.
I redeposited the box this morning and then went to my office bank for a box of cents. The cashier asked me if I know any dealers that might offer her more for $50 at face of silver quarters. I said I know a few but they all will offer about the same. I said that after collecting them for as long as it took to get all of them that she needs to do herself a favor and shop around. That;s when she said "I don't collect them. I had a client bring in a box of wrapped quarters and needed a roll later in the day and when I opened it, they were all silver" I asked her when that was and she said last Friday. She said that half of the box was silver and some of the quarters are dated in the 20's. She said that a dealer she knows offered her on Friday $900 but doesn't really know coins and is thinking there may be coins worth much more than melt.

The killer is that this box could have been mine if I wasn't stuck at my plant all day!

Wow. tough break. I bet when the rest of the bank hears of the cashiers profit they all will be opening and searching rolls.

And you didn't make her an offer ? I would have said $950 and hoped for some good dates...if not I could easily resell and get my money back

I think she meant to say 5 rolls as there is $50 at face. I was too flustered to make an offer.

Flustered because she was a strikingly attractive teller?

Ouch!

I would say it could be worse, but I am hard pressed to think of anything that would be worse (in the CRH realm, that is).
