Check out this ebay auction that ended a while ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl..._1413wt_1139When I look at the larger images the seller posts, the edge on the coin is completely worn down. I have never graded a Capped Bust Dime, but to me that coin would NEVER receive an MS grade.

Looks like a weak strike if the coin had circulated, the high points of the design would exhibit wear which they do not.
MS-61 seems about right.

Thanks fenton,
I guess seeing that kind of edge on a coin reminds me of very low grades (G, VG, F).

A side note regarding that seller, neyronix. They are known for shill bidding and while that piece went for a market correct price, the strike and adjustment marks make it an average buy at best for the winner. If in fact the winner wasn't neyronix or one of their cronies, it would surprise some people.

They have some very nice coins and advertise far and wide to get bidders. The way I look at it is; put in your best bid and wait for it to end. Do not ever get into a bidding war on any of these pieces. If you want your hair to stand on end, follow the links: LINKS deleted. Not allowed. Edit: You didn't need your hair standing on end tonight anyway.

In 1807, coins were struck by hand with screw presses so there is a great variety of weak strikes.

My 1807 dime was sold as a cleaned uncirculated coin by Stacks. Strike is uneven as expected for this date. The weakness at the rim is especially obvious, but the coin is still uncirculated. These images were provided in the Stacks auction catalog.

Oooooh, that's purdy!
Learn something new everyday. I would probably have passed that off as wear, too.

That's a very nice piece Jaobler. What do you think about the adjustment marks on the reverse of the coin the OP linked? Seems like they would bring the price down, but didn't seem to......

BTW, Draped Bust Dime. Adjustment marks do not constitute wear. This coin still has a nice bright, white look of a MS coin.

Yes that coin definitely has some rim issues. Other than that, it is nice looking, but not for $5,000 plus dollars!
