Hey everyone
Really new to this and trying to figure out what to look for and get a handle on it all, there is alot to take in. I'm reading and searching, but figure until I find something I'll never know what to look for so, I'm hoping some of you pro's will help out. after about $200 in and several hours through my change jar, lol. I have found a few that I am curiuos about. These are nothing I'm sure and if so nothing like I am seeing on here, but hopefully its a start to understanding. The pics are horrible I know, only have a point and shoot right now, but getting a better camera and lens in about two weeks and a buddy to help with lighting. The first wondering if a die break. hard to tell by the pic, but it does look raised through a magnifying glass.the spot I'm asking about is in front of the "I" in "IN" The second maybe a Cud on the "9" or just damage? the third, not sure. Read something about a cloth print or something. Tried to wipe off, thought maybe a finger print or something, but the marks will not come off.this one is particularly hard to see with pics, but they are streaks across the coins like a finger print? sorry for the long post, but thanks to all who answer and/or give advice.

I'm really not sure on the first one with the image provided. Just can't tell.

The second one is a struck through error - probably bring a buck or two on ebay because it affects the date. A couple of important things to know...

A Cud can ONLY affect the edge of the design - along the rim - and it represents a missing part of a die. The die punches the coin, so a missing part of the die would be - raised - on the coin. What you have is something that was - raised - on the die, thus makes the coin sink in lower than normal. Get it?

Third coin looks like stains in the red copper (oxidation) from a fingerprint. This wouldn't "wipe" off (bad idea anyway) because the metal has actually been chemically changed. It cannot go back to red without a lot of - well - "work".

keep collecting coins from your pocket change as this would not be heavy on your wallet. you will increase your knowledge base in a span of few months, patience is very important in numismatics my friend.

Please dont mind the value of the coin, just collect coins it could destress u.

warm wishes.

Well I like the first pic. Kind of reminds you of how he would have looked after trying to tell Mary Todd that her dress was too tight as in that commercial. Sorry, I know I not being analytical but I've never seen a Lincoln with a well pronounced black eye.

I think it looks like the make-up job on ex-NFL player John Randle when he played with the Vikings.
