I recently acquired a hoard of Bu and OBW cents. I found 5 of these 1972 DDOs in one roll. I am confused about the type. There is clear doubling on the motto and slight doubling on the 72 in the date. I have looked at copper coins and Lincoln Cent resource and am still confused. so some help would be appreciated.

The second question is, is this type worth getting graded to sell? AS I said all 5 are about of a new roll and look very nice. I will send at least 1 in to get graded for myself, but not sure if gradign the others is worth it. I am gonna say all of them are at least ms 64.

Nice. It looks like die -008 on coppercoins.

Can we see the whole coin?

Snazzypit - a little education...

There is no such thing as "types" of doubled dies for 1972. They are all the same "type" - they are doubled dies. What you are referring to is the die number, not the type. I know, I know...a LOT of people use "type 1", "type 2" to describe the first two dies, but this is technically not correct and makes the people look ignorant who use terms like this incorrectly. Just clarifying it for youso you can learn from the experience.

The coin you imaged is nice. I am interested in it if you want to sell it.

You have die #8 there - it's one of the most common, but in this grade it's a winner.

thanks for the tip, that is why I post stuff here to learn. I mostly collect major errors, like off center coins. I like errors that I don't need a loop to see. I just recenty started looking for varieties like this DDO. besides making my eyes go buggy I have been enjoying the hunt. And as for selling this coin, I don't think I am aloud to sell here yet, I would need quite a few more posts to do that. However I do have 5 of them all in the same condition and when I am able to sell here I will. I only keep one for myself. how many posts do I need to trade?

Snazzy, the rules on selling/trading are in the rules section of this forum....pretty easy to find and good you knew they existed as they are not real tolerant when somebody breaks them.
