I noticed that I am getting outsniped a LOT on these. Bidding is also fiercer. I get outbid plenty on other series', but rarely outsniped. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm guessing that these series' are far more sought after than barber or Seated Liberty coins.

Early Copper and Bustie guys are serious. No bull. They have the most fanatical (and I use the term as a compliment) core collector base of any coins ever issued. They are also (by and large) the most principled of them.

If I'm going to buy early copper, I'm just gonna talk directly to Chris McCawley. He won't lead me wrong, and I know I'll get the coin.

Early copper, especially the Draped Bust coppers, are incredibly popular and competitive. I have duked it out on ebay with more than one early copper guy, on Draped Bust types and Colonials of the scarcer type. I love copper more than silver and most early copper guys will concur.

My budget doesn't allow for many early copper purchases so when it does I also go to Chris McCawley. I've bought a half dozen coppers sight unseen from him over the last couple years & have always been satisfied. I may be a little biased though because the very first coin I bought from him that I paid EF money for slabbed at PCGS as a MS64.

By the way, this is also with stuff all the way down to the $30-$50 range, not just high end.

No doubt. The competition is organized, knowledgeable of their specialty, motivated and self-aware. Most importantly, there are more of them than there are coins to go around. Demand exceeds supply, and those demanding know what they're looking for.

You come out a winner from that bunch, and you know you've accomplished something.
