What's up with the white out near the dates? Do you suppose someone wrote in "COPY" next to the dates and he whited it out?

Love the line, "...selling these for a widow lady...". What a nice guy!

I'm going to send him a message and ask if I can view them personally. I live about 2 hours away from his location and have a friend in Rockford, IL.

The seller just e-mailed me his phone number. I'm calling him tomorrow. 99% chance these are all copies but some of them look like good copies. Not sure the best way to handle this because they don't appear to be marked copy.

If he was offered 5 figures for the collection from a local dealer then why would he put it on ebay to begin with?

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! If they were genuine, they would not be on ebay.

WOW! In addition to the coins almost certainly being counterfeit, the seller can't spell or construct sentences.

Brad, I'll be very curious to hear how your investigation goes, IF you're allowed to see them. Keep us posted.

I talked with the seller and he has added a lot of information to the auction after having them examined yesterday. He said if the auction has not exceeded $10K tomorrow, it will be ended early.

The guy really believes the coins are genuine but knows some are harshly cleaned. He said they all weigh in an acceptable range and are 38.1mm in diameter and none are marked "copy" or "replica" or anything and grade between Good and AU.

I mentioned to him that they could be copies made of silver and he acknowledged that possibility but does not think that is the case. Might make a nice roll of silver rounds for somebody but not at $10K!
