Based on my grading sources from Canada, it looks around VF30 to my eyes.

all the way to 40 with any(unpredictable-matters how many you give us to garade a year etc.... etc)
US TPG... even choice AU with some.....like NNG etc....
BUT,,, whatever you grade it, IT will be...
COIN in hand is always the deciding factor...

Thanks guys, coin looks a lot more detailed in hand than it does through the scanner. I tried to better the scan image many times but cannot seem to bring out the details of the coin.

Idle question: What is the "Canadian" grading standard?

I'm familiar with (and use both) the "American" and "European" standards, which (in the real world) do not really differ. One may glean this from the introduction to any Krause encyclopedia.

Concerning the coin in question: The scans indicate no real luster remaining (scans measure luminosity, but express it in a different visual sense that photographs) - the cheek and adjoining fields have the same luminosity. However, it's easy to see that most of the reverse detail is intact.

I don't know this specific coin, but I've handled rather a few with variations of the Victoria Head, and the quality of their strikes is all over the map, to the extent that I rarely let it factor heavily into my grading opinion.

The upshot is, I don't see how this coin fails to make VF. That's why I asked the question above, seeking enlightenment.

As a point of reference, here is a coin graded by ICCS. That grade tracks to my other Canadian sources.

With the understanding that the scan does not adequately present the detail, I don't see the OP's coin exceeding the quality of the ICCS coin.

More or less. I do see a little more detail around the eye and reverse crown on the OP's coin.

Took these pictures with my camera but had to really crop to get under the 90k limit.

I'll bet, in hand, this coin would grade EF-40,

A scan doesn't do it justice.

Canada-EH, can you show the lower part of the ribbon section, close up.
