The 2nd L in DOLLAR caught my eye so I put it in the buy pile. The are and star also have a shelf like doubling but why not the A in the middle of the spread. On the obv, stars on the right are doubled towards the rim and the left stars are tripled towards the rim. I could not get a good shot of the star doubling. The inner ear has moderate doubling on the right side with a small die chip in the bottom of the ear cavity. Could this be the V-41 or 41A EDS?

I really don't know how this one got missed for so long now.... first I have seen of this thread.... I don't know about the 41 or 41A stuff, but what a pretty coin... I am beginning to notice things about the design that I have never noticed before.

The woman who posed for the design surely didn't have such exaggerated facial features do you think? A witch's chin and a protruding nose bridge.... was she actually attractive?

When I see a 21 I run....its a terrible year to attribute,, but there ate two things that stand out for the 21 VAM 41...the triple LEFT stars from the date, and the die goop in the ear,, which you have no photo's of these points...Post some close ups, so we can take a look...

Here is a couple pics through a loope of the ear and l/s star #6. All the l/s stars appear to have the same doubling feature. nlp

I can see why you are thinking that nlp..... but my answer/guess would be no.... the star that you show is definitely quadrupled (don't know where it is located on the coin), stupid me, (star #6 on the obv.)... but the there are a couple of diagonal scratches on the 41A (or 1A or whatever it is), in the second tailfeather on the viewer's left, that are not present on your coin.... I would think that if anyone could say with any certainty though, it would be SuperDave...... I don't know either if 41 & 41A are the same die pair?

I just have to mention again though, what a beautiful coin that is ... (truly magnificent in my eyes)...

edited to cover up my foolishness.

Yeah, I agree (on an aesthetic level anyway).

I'm lookin' and thinkin', just so you don't think I missed this.

Stars are definitely quadrupled. I have an MS64 41B; the ear looks good but there is no cracking whatsoever near the stars, as shown in your detail. Stars are tripled, so I'm looking other directions at your coin.

19 is ruled out; on that one, DOLLAR is doubled so significantly that it would be easily visible on your detail pic.

48 is a possibility; need details of the top of the 1's.

I hate to say this, but we have to explore scribbles. Can you get the loupe/camera into the scribbles area?

On an unrelated subject, YGM.

You aren't giving the scribbles the credit that they deserve Gene.... without them, there would be a lot less 1921 vams because many of those reverse dies would look identicle....

OK, here is a few more pics of selected areas. There is not much going on in the scribbling department that a novice like me can determine.

PRAISE THE LORD HOW I HATE SCRIBBLES...200 listings to review....For people that thought 78P was hard...jump into all of the 21 series......But note to..for the 78P series there's around 250 or so VAM's but hey are divided so one can research them. For 21...ITS CHAOS....perhaps one day someone will have ENOUGH knowledge
to organize it so you can take PUP's and follow the details...but for know,, Its every man/women for your self... its a tuff year....
