Kingz:

Your 1844 is an interesting die variety. It's the 44 over 81 caused by the date being punched inverted at first and then corrected.

Hey Littleboy, How can you see that? Even if I hold it in my hand under the light with a magnifying glass I can't see that inverted 81. And what does it mean for the value of the coin?

Thanks for your 2 Cents :)

Yep, it's definitely an 1844 over 81 (inverted 18). You can see a hint of the 8 to the right of the first 4 and the thickening of the second 4 due to the 1. (I posted a picture of another 44/81 that might help show the date).

And in lower grades, it about doubles the value.

The 1802 Draped Bust cent is nice!

I have a not-that-nice (F2) 1794 Liberty Cap Large Cent for my oldest US Mint issue, but I also have a couple that pre-date that. Unfortunately, haven't broken the 1787 mark yet - a Mass cent, a couple of Jerseys, and a few Fugios (again, not that nice). But I'd like a nicer Fugio and some Boston Mint stuff. We'll have to see what 2011 will bring! =)

I have a Roman coin from 337 A.D., as my oldest coin.

Oldest U.S. coin......hmmm..... I think it would be a Large Cent dated late 1820's.

Tomten, just an interesting piece of coin trivia about your coin. It is the first to include the motto "In God We Trust." The civil war was a dark time and many people were turning to religion to cope at the time. Of course, you may have known that already :)

USArmyParaTrooper, I didn't know that actually. I hardly know anything about coins, at least not any trivia. ;)

US coins are very interesting and demand a very high price compared to other world coins actually, at least the older ones. Wish I had more US coins :(
