Okay, I have been buying the $1 Proof Silver Commemoratives for a while, and I want to price them now. I am using the PCGS guide online. For example I have the 2008 Bald Eagle Proof commemorative silver dollar; I bought it directly from the US Mint.
What I what to know is if the Proof condition is equal to the MS-70 condition they have listed or the one below it being MS-69. The difference being a couple hundred dollars. At MS-70, its $260 and at MS-69 its $57.

If I am wrong, please help me so I can price my collection correctly.

PS. Same thing with the American Silver Eagles here: http://goo.gl/AzueV

THANKS!

MS and Proof coins are not created equal and the values will be in some cases, highly contrastive.

Just as a side note the PCGS guide is often viewed as highly overvalued. I would suggest looking at ebay completed auctions, that's a far better guide as to the value of your coins. Numismedia and Greysheet are also good guides but remember that they won't represent the coins' values exactly, guides can only give an estimate.

Proofs are graded on a similar but separate scale. A perfect proof coin is PR70, minimal flaws PR69, PR68 and so on. Most proofs that you get from the mint in recent years will grade PR67-PR69. PR70 coins are scarce, hence the premium prices.

Okay, thanks. I looked at the Numismedia site, and they only go up to MS-60 not Proof.
What is the best site for coin prices, and is free? If any are good.

Actually Numismedia does go up to MS-70, if you look at the top left of the screen you'll see options for different grade ranges. I may be wrong though since I'm basing that off of differrnt series, and not Commems. Greysheet is considered the standard although you'll have to pay a small fee. Like I said ebay completed listings might be a good choice.
