1787 New Jersey Copper Variety? - Coin Community Forum

photogame Valued Member United States 101 Posts	Posted 12/29/2010 10:35 pm hi, I have this 1787 NJ copper and am curious if anyone out there might have a great knowledge of the varities. I don't have any books to identify it so with the little bit of internet search, I think it might be a maris 68-w variety, I am curious as if thats right. vermontensium Moderator United States 16677 Posts	Posted 12/29/2010 11:25 pm It has planchet flaws which were so common for these Colonial issues, as well as a slight OC strike. That would not take away from the grade. Your coin is IMO, a Maris 68-w variety (rare). It does have some corrosion on the reverse, but I would put your coin in the Fine category. photogame Valued Member United States 101 Posts	Posted 12/29/2010 11:55 pm So I looked at the past Stacks auctions, there are 3 in the past yr. , the first 2 a fine 12 and a fine 15, curious if you think they match up to mine with the lack of detail in the horse on those? If you were spend the money to have it graded, I would imagine that it might be worth about the same. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...&Lot_No=7144 edited to add: Sorry, I forgot to mention the price it sold for (in case you are unable to log in to Heritage)....
