hey Dad, I would like to know how long a "cleaned" coin would have to "age" to get such toning?

I would kinda like to see that coin again with some lighting that might bring out the more the in hand look.... I might gain a better appreciation for toning if I could see things in a different light...

"hey Dad," I would venture a guess and Dave basically said it all. This is just my opinion, I do NOT see many actual detailed grades given, here or any other times people ASK for our opinions on the grade? I would like to compare other's grading opinions when members ask, I just do NOT see them............. Zee, toning is like grading, all subjective, and according to who you ask, I personally, love a well toned coin, I remember a 1895-S Eliasberg Morgan silver dollar with some rather bizarre( to me ) toning and it sold for a small fortune......

Let's be clear Gene, you state, " Quote: I would like to know how long a "cleaned" coin would have to "age" to get such toning?"
I am of the opinion you are talking about the already toned portion of the coin, IMO, Years. If you are speaking about the cleaned portion of this coin to tone, months or much longer, IMO, You would have to take many things in to account, what was used to clean the coin, how much of it was used, etc, to get a definitive answer.
I really have NOT seen members give an in depth, detailed grade to most grades given on this forum, I really wish members would give their experience in writing, to see where we as a learning comunity stands in this arena.......Instead of MS-63!!

Morgans Dad, I agree with you all the way on the grading. It is an opinion as always and differ with everyone. But if we talk about it and give each other our viewpoints and why we all will learn. As this was my post I have know problem with it getting a little high-jacked. When you placed your opinion on this post I was and am not offended by it at all, Just so you know. Every date in the Morgan dollar seem to have a grading curve that is a little different it seems. I think I understand why in some cases. Look at the 1880 S Morgans a larger number where struck strongly unlike say an 1884 O type coin. Most of them where weakly struck and few even have a good solid strike. So the way they are seen in the eyes TPG companies is different. Right, Wrong or Indifferent, that is how they grade. I have the PCGS grading guild and they kind of address it in the book. I MS-63 1880 S will look much nicer then that of the same grade in a 1884 O coin.

Wow Russ, you must really have a thing for blue coins....I didn't really care for that first one that started the thread, but these last four are all pretty nice coins... are they all the same VAM? Anyway, I think my favorites are the first and third ones (out of these last four)..... Thanks a lot for showing them... (all of them)... I really do appreciate it Russ, the differences in lighting can really make a difference (more than I had suspected)... this was a pretty substantial learning thread (for me)....

Thanks Russ, I hope that it is turning out well for you too.
Have you found any more interesting coins lately? Anything that could challenge my heightened level of arrogance/ignorance?

Yeah, I heard about the game.... should be pretty good, I think that they are playing Euclid High School. Ohio Sate can use the practice, and Euclid H.S. can use the win.....
