Your local bank or credit union. I buy boxes of cents from my bank,$25 a box and search for errors and varieties. You might want to ask friends and relatives to save them for you too.Also- to CCF. John1

You can get a $25 box from your bank for, well, $25. That is a s cheap as your gonna get them. You can find everything from 2010 cents to Indian Heads and a few Canadian cents, don't look to find the Indian often though. I have only found four of those in nearly 30 years.

Buying rolls from the bank at face value is pretty hard to beat. There are still quite a few wheaties out there to be found. I usually find 10 or 15 or so per box (50 rolls which is $25 face value). I also look for varieties and exceptionally nice high grade coins. It's a lot of fun and very addicting! Have fun!

plus every penny you buy from the bank for 1 cent that is older than 1982 has 2.9 cents of copper in it!

Except that it's illegal to smelt them and it's expensive to remove the zinc from the alloy. Things people aren't thinking of when they think they'll make a killing buying cents for copper content.

Yes, and no. Its really hit an miss as to which banks will order for you and which ones won't. All the rules seem to change based on what part of the country you are in.
In my area, I simply shop around until I find a "nice" bank that will order and I then open an account for the minimum balance with them. Then dump your searched cents at the"bad" banks that wouldn't help you - ha ha. That is one of the perks of the job:).
Its really nice to find a dump bank that has a "self service" coin counter that you can use to dump coins without bothering the tellers too much. This helps keep a lower profile IMO.
The most efficient way for me to sort cents has been to buy $50 bags from my local credit union. The come right off of their coin counter, don't involve opening any rolls and come in easy packaging which I can re-use to haul my zinc's back to the bank! Not all will sell them to you, just keep asking nicely and you will find one that will hopefully. Then shower those tellers with chocolate, juice or donuts from time to time and the finds will come flowing in!
I do have higher find rates in sealed fed $25 boxes over the bags I get, so I still try to get a mix of those from time to time.

Becoming more and more common problem. If you have a buisness that requires coinage, you need to present this info to a bank ant only then will they order coins for you. In my area all banks that I know of do not take in nor pass out bulk coins of any types anymore. Even if you have accounts there. I use to get half dollars all the time and now nothing. Bank of America, Chase and lots of others no longer play around with people playing coin changing games. By this I mean the people that take bulk out of one bank, go though it, return to another bank and all for free. This takes time and costs the banks money so they are starting policies that no longer allow this practice. Now if you have bulk coins they will take them, send them out for counting and enter the total in or account and you pay for that. NO ACCOUNT? Then the cost goes up. Another reason is the rash of idiots that save money on the short roll methods. They take coins in rolls to banks and there is usually one or two coins short per roll. Not noticable at first if all the rolls are the same size since they are all short the same amount. No;w banks are sending these out for counting so they must be broaken open and then counted and again there is a price for that service. As a beginner I suggest you take coppercoins up on his offer. He would probably start you off with more good stuff than you could ever find in tons of coins from the bank.

My bank's solution to that problem was to get a counting machine - something like Coinstar - and install it in the lobby. Free to account holders, it counts the money and spits out a deposit ticket. WAY easy to use, and a pure God send for what I do. I have a savings account there, and deposit all my "back to bank" coins in savings.
They don't accept rolled coins, they don't accept piles...they send you out to the counting machine.

The free ones I get are on the ground that kids and adults throw or drop. Other free ones are found with my metal detector. 1800+ in three months...I quit digging for them after awhile. FREE!

I have 3 different accounts with 3 different banks. I've never had a problem ordering boxes, or grabbing customer-wrapped rolls from any of them. I get the majority of my boxes through BofA. My local branch does a heavy volume of merchant banking. I opened up a "free" checking account with them for $20.00. They give me coin bags whenever I need them. I stopped buying wrappers long ago. All I have to do is put $50.00 worth of loose coins into the bag, seal it up with my account information on it...and swap it for 2 more boxes. The merchant tellers don't even ask me to swipe my card anymore. Heck, they're even saving every wheat they find throughout the day and selling it to me for face when I go in. I can only think I've been as lucky as I've been because I've been completly honest with them. They know that I'm roll-hunting, and the accounts manager knows why I opened the account. A fresh box of doughnuts on a Sat. morning every once in awhile doesn't hurt either imho.
