I'll just say it - I'm having trouble grading modern clad coins between AU and MS - Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, Kennedy halves. With copper, it's easy to tell how authentic luster is, and I rarely have to decide whether a feature is missing because it's worn, or because of a weak strike. With clad, it's harder. Is that wear on the cheekbone, or a weak die? Is that original luster at the high points, just a nice cleaning?

Anyone else run into problems when differentiating between high AU and low MS grades for modern clad?

What I like to do with my collection is to undergrade coins one step when not sure about grading.

How strong is your magnifing glass? I grade with 10X loupe.

If I take a coin out of circulation I almost never grade it an ms63 unless it is brand new. Too many collectors grade there coins too high.

Good luck the more you grade the better you get

Any suggestions on online resources (with pictures) for grading Kennedy halves between AU and MS? (e.g. what wear points to focus on, examples of what detail to expect, how to differentiate weak strike vs. wear, differences between grading for the 1960s-1980s halves vs. the lower relief versions from the 1990s onward?)
