I have a chance to buy a 1946 Walking Lib Double Die reverse It is in a PCGS F 15 slab. If anyone has any experience with this coin, I would like to have some help figuring out what a good price would be. I did do a quick search of E bay. One came up, a buy it now coin. This ebay one seems high http://cgi.ebay.com/1946-Walking-Li...em19be8d30b1The one at the local shop I can get for much cheaper.

I purchased an uncertified, approximately xf-45 example, for $40 two years ago. Interest in these seems to have increased recently, but I still see them priced in the $40-80 range for nice, circulated examples (uncertified).
Perhaps I should get another one:)
Try to avoid the lower grade examples, as the doubling becomes pretty hard to see below about F-12.

I can get this PCGS slab F 15 for $15.00.
I have never seen one of these before, but it sounds like a good deal.
From what I can see, I think I see doubling on some of the lower feathers .. at least that is where I think I see it doubled.

For $4 over spot I would go for it.

Quote: For $4 over spot I would go for it. That's what I was thinking. But ...I don't like to buy coins I don't know about, with out checking them out a little then giving them a second look. It would be nice if it was a higher grade. But it is what it is. I am pretty sure I will pick it up tomorrow, they are getting me a 2001 silver proof set ($60.00), so will pick this up when I go back for that set. I was just hoping to hear what other members here thought about this coin and what value it should be.

I would definitely go for that purchase as long as its a legit doubled die. Check the lettering on E Pluribus Unum, specifically the two "U's" of Pluribus for the most obvious areas of doubling.

chugly - thanks for the information. I did pick it up today. It is worn, so a little hard seeing the doubling of the letters, but it does look like those U's are doubled. Of course it is in a PCGS holder. I do like it .. and I think the price was right. I did find it in the 2011 RedBook, I think it said $25.00 for a Fine.

Nice work GoldRush58!
I can't believe that someone would sell that coin already slabbed for only $15! A total "no brainer" purchase in my book. Well done!
