Most of the ASEs I have are from 10+/- years ago and are in sealed plastic bags or thin slabs. Ex; I have 20-2003s that are in something called a "Shopac" from Littleton Coins,(that claims they are "Uncirculated"). I noticed one of them has some toning around the edge and date because the thin plastic of the "Shopac" is split there. Another has a small brown spot in the center of the Obverse because the thin plastic has split there.
Should I run out and get a pile of the "Airtight" containers for all these coins? Or just the ones in the plastic bags?

As I have no intent of having these coins graded, the toning has not de-valued the coin.....correct?

Other than round "Airtights" are there other options for coin covers/storage?
Thank you, paul.

Are you from NH? I do believe there coin shop is in NH. I have a bunch of coins in there plastic bag things. I got the coins in the mid 90s and my coins look the same today as the day I got them. I would bet the rip has something to do with the problem. I only keep my "good" to ASE in 2.5x2.5. if they aren't almost perfect then I don't care if they get scratched since they are just bullion.

If I were you I wouldn't waste money on air-tites. Use that money to buy 'junk' silver. If you obtain enough silver that the littleton packaging that houses your coins becomes a nuisance, and by that I mean the packaging takes up too much space, you could put your ASEs in 2x2s or mylar flips. Those are cheaper alternatives to the air-tites and will protect your ASEs just as well. Well, they will protect them as well if you do not mishandle them and if you do keep them in a cool, dry place.

Depends on the Individual. I am rather anal about keeping my things in pristine condition. All of my Silver Eagles and other bullion coins are in air-tites, and I have several thousand of them.

Thank you Gents for your advise. I think I may look for some form of holder for the 10 or so I have in plastic bags. Partly to protect them but also so I can SEE them. The bags are white on one side so the dates on some are hard to see. I like the idea of the 2X2 flips, Thanks.
I live in Colorado, they were one of those magazine offers back when no one was buying Silver! You remember......"Buy 5 ASE rounds and get an Unc. State Quarter and a War Nickle for FREE!". "Sorry only one order per Person". So I used my Name, My wifes, My 2 year old and My Dogs name! Then they send you another offer of a 2001 and a 2002 ASE. but these did not come in the "Shopac"s, just the Littleton plastic bags.

I am curious what your overall reason for collecting ASE's. For the silver investment.
Or because they are a cool coin. If it is for the silver then, as was
suggested the 2X2's or even just a good coin tube maybe the cheapest way to store your coins.

If it is because you like the series and want to collect them by year, proof, BU and satin finish. Then you could consider other ways to protect and store your coins.

I decided to put mine in a Dansco album for the BU versions and a lighthouse coin case for my proof and burnished ones.
Here is a link to a thread for my Lighthouse case.

As for the Dansco I think it is a nice looking set, one for each year from 1986 to date. They do have a album that I think includes
the proofs and burnished coins, but for me I don't like putting proof coins in a album, once they get up in value. There are a few proof ASE that are over $100.

On a side note, the main coin shop I go to, just purchased six or seven Dansco's full of ASE's. They took out the coins and put the albums on the used book shelf, I did not look to close at them, to see if they have the last updated page. But from just a glance they looked in really good shape and could be bought for 10 or 12 dollars.
Let me know if it is something your interested in.

Hello Goldrush58, I do like the ASE coin, I think it is the nicest US coin minted. But with the high price on silver right now and such a fever over ASEs, I am thinking of keeping my interest in ASEs to just an investment. If I am able to trade some of my bullion rounds for ASEs, and get dates I do not have, I may consider collecting them. It seems if I wish to collect I have alot to learn and a lot of reading to do! The other big issue is one you mentioned, some of these ASEs can be very high$$$$, and I would not want to get to a point in a collection and hit a brick wall.
Thank you on the offer for the collector books, I think I will hold off for now and see what I can find at the coin show coming up in two weeks. Thanks again, Paul.
