I'm still new to the Large Cents. I found this at auction and am wondering what you all think of the grade & general shape of the coin (I know it's circular, but am wondering if it's been cleaned or has other issues)?

thanks

Serious eye appeal, and I agree with the quoted grades. One thing to keep in mind - cleaning followed by chemical darkening is a worry for these early coppers, and in a PCGS slab this is a $200 coin at Heritage. There are a couple patches which give me pause - especially between ONE and CENT - and I believe the color contrast between fields and devices to be a bit extreme for the dark color of the fields.

With that said, it's a great planchet and I very well may be overreacting. It's what I do best.

Strong VF for detail and the color in general looks good. However, I echo SuperDave's concern about the color contrast. The coin may have been wiped or treated with some chemical to lighten the color. The date in particular is conspicuously bright and I don't think it would look that way if the coin were completely original. Still, this issue might not be severe enough to keep it out of a graded TPG holder.
