Hi all!

I'm wondering if anyone could show me what a Wide AM and Close AM small cent looks like? I'm seeing in "The Official Blue Book" (68th Edition 2011 pgs. 62, 63) that years 1996, 1998,1999 and 2000 has a possible " Wide AM" and years 1992,1992D, and 1999S has a possible " Close AM"

Thanks for the help in advance!

is a great site to look at all reverse designs. The 1996 is still in debate as to whether it exists or not, but you should check all coins for any varieties, not just ones isolated to a "list".

You might just have one that hasn't been discovered yet if you have "tunnel vision".

The prevailing diagnostic on the close and Wide AM varieties are the designers initals to the right of the Memorial.

Be aware that to date not one single example of a 1996 Wide AM has been verified. Only one example was known and it mysteriously disappeared before it could be verified bymore than one single source, and another has never surfaced.

Missing in your list is a rare proof Close AM - the 1998S.

So are these considered an error coin? If so, why aren't they worth considerably more than what they are listed as?

No. They are considered varieties. There is a distinction.

Errors are usually one time instances of a mishap in production.
A variety is a change that impacts many coins.
