Cool! I like the look of the Proof Like ones. Pretty slick in my opinion.

I really like the look of that! Would like to see a Proof one, as a real Proof Peace dollar would be forever out of my reach.

I admit they are very nice, but they are not a US mint coin and I have no place in my collection for one. Why did he make them dated 1964...why not 2010 or 2011? That would have avoided all of the controversy.

That is sweet. I just can't justify the price tag for it though. My dealer told me that I should get a few cause they will go way up in value. He has been wrong before though, tried to get me to buy a bunch of 09 Lincolns in MS67. They have lost nearly 1/3 their value.

I noticed on the website he isn't offering the gilded version any more but has added a matte proof.

He is only making 1,964 of the coins total across all issues. Hence, these will certainly be rare when production stops.
Given the quality, I feel they will become (and are) extremely collectible.

May have something to do with silver being pulled from everyday circulation? Just my guess....kinda a date of significance.

but if I am not mistaken he has been selling them for a couple of years now. I am not, here is an article back in Quote: May have something to do with silver being pulled from everyday circulation? Just my guess....kinda a date of significance.
Its because he can so called legally make the 1964-D Peace dollar since the ones that were minted were never released to the public or none has ever been found anyway. That is why it looks exactly like a Peace dollar and doesn't have to have the word copy on it. I am guessing you do not know the history about the 1964-D Peace dollar so here is a website about it http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article337.chtmlQuote: Given the quality, I feel they will become (and are) extremely collectible. Most articles I have seen written about these things since he started minting the 2009 ASE proof from ASE coins is exactly opposite. Every article says these are worthless trinkets and no one will admit to wanting them. I think they look nice but I don't think I would want one in my collection but thats just me. it has been discussed on here as well https://goccf.com/t/75251and here https://goccf.com/t/71974

That was the question I was referring to. However, I had forgotten about the history of the 64 Peace dollar. I read it in my RedBook a few months back. I wonder if it's possible that any employees pocketed any of them

Yes the whole reason these faithful overstrikes are collectible is because of the fact the U.S. Mint produced, and then destroyed, all of the real ones. Hence, the Carr Peace dollar is the closest any of us will ever get to owning a real one. Competition from China? Not likely... every coin I've seen come out of there is just garbage. If they tried to do a 1964 Peace dollar they would probably put the 6 upside down and end up with 1994. EDIT: And the Chinese would mint it using some bizarre tin alloy that turns green after 2 months

so if a genuine 1964 Peace dollar ever turns up and is certified then he could be arrested....why take the chance? before I said there was no place in my collection for one, but I forgot they are silver so I would buy one at melt value but thats it.

Nice coin fenton ! I'm not gonna comment on any ethical issues, but I still have to admit it is pretty cool.

the thing about it is, if any ever does still exist this type of thing will make all of them suspect and even a real one will be deemed a "overstrike" now. So no you may not get arrested anymore but you also just lost all the history also because one man decided he could make these trinkets for profit and pass through a loop hole
Dont get me wrong, I don't have any beef with DC and he used to post here, I just dont agree with doing things just because you can when it can effect the whole hobby in the future just so you can make a quick buck

Quote: if any ever does still exist this type of thing will make all of them suspect and even a real one will be deemed a "overstrike" now. A genuine example should not be confused with a D Carr overstrike because he intentionally added a boldly repunched mintmark, you can see it to the immediate right of the mintmark in both photos. Of course, if a genuine example surfaced, it would be illegal to own and subject to seizure. I refer to it as an overstrike because that is what it is- the host planchet is a real Peace dollar. If you examine one closely, you will see some remnants of the original strike.
