Hi,

I thought it would be really nice to see what books people have in their home libraries.

I'm new and just starting out so have mostly used the local library or online for reference information, so my home library for coins/money reference is pretty slim. I did pick up a couple of old books from a 2nd hand store a long time ago, but received TWO currenter books as gifts recently. I picked up one from the post office today, a total surprize Christmas gift to me of a book I've been drooling over but haven't been able to purchase as yet!!

1) Charlton Standard Catalogue Canadian Coins, Volume One, Numismatic Issues 2011, 65th Edition, W.K. Cross (received gift today!)

2) The Official Blue Book, Handbook of United States coins 2010, 67th Edition, Yeoman/Bresset (received gift)

The only books I owned before the above two arrived:

3) Coins of Canada, 1988, Haxby/Willey

4) The 2001 Charlton Coin Guide, 40th Edition

That's my coins and money library folks!

Now you?

I just packed mine up as I'm moving soon, but I have quite a few in my library. "Buy the book before the coin" is usually good advice. Books can be pricey and when I was starting out and couldn't afford them I was thankful for being a member of the C.N.A. (now the R.C.N.A.) and took full advantage of their library.

I have: Red Book 2009(I'll get one every four years or so).
Charlton Standard Catalogue Canadian Coins
Standard Catalog of World Coins 1901-2000 and a 1801-1900 both are two editions old
The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards of United States coins

I don't keep up with the most current ones. It saves me some money and I mostly use them as a refernce for weights, metal content etc....

I keep seeing mentions of the RedBook. Will have to google it to see what it's all about.

Another title that looks interesting is the one about Strike it Rich With Pocket Change (title ?) and also Looking Through Lincoln Cents. Books about varieties and errors always look interesting. I get most of my information from googling and visiting forums. I have a few sites bookmarked, both Canadian and US.

The RedBook is the US equivalent to the Charlton Cat for Canadian Coins. Also you may find the Canadian Coin News worth getting. You can get it delivered. It is biweekly and costs just over $40 a year. All the dealers in the area I live use this as a guide to price their coins.

I have recently purchased two Coins of England book by Spink, 2006 and 2008. These are very nice books if you collect coins from Great Britain. I went to my local coin dealer and these books cost $90. Ibought second hand one on ebay and the other on Amazon. paid less than $20 per book and they are both excellent condition.

Zowie Wowie, am I now in the 500 Club?

It sure doesn't take long to add up posts!

Bryan1315, something tells me that you're very "into" Morgans

I'm sticking to pennies level because I have to but I have acquired a few other denominations and I do really like them. I do search other circulating denominations rolls sometimes just in case I come across something really special but generally have to spend them soon. Nothing I've found yet has been worth much but face value. Of course I hang onto anything at all that I receive from other people. My "keepers" for sure :)

You have a great Morgan's library there Bryan!!
Rest in Peace

This is a tough one for me. I have 3 bookcases in my coin room. I have a complete set of bluebooks and Wayte Raymond Standard Catalogues. I am just missing 3 Redbooks. I have many reference books. I organized one bookcase by different denominations on each shelf.

I have Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of US and Colonial Coins, and the last few years' red books. Breen's book is really great, though a bit expensive. Plus, there's so much available online these days.
