Picked this up from ebay. Seller listed it as GEM BU RAINBOW TONING T3. Don't know what T3 means. Would this make MS60? Pix were taken in hand.

Tough call. It looks like there might be some wear on the ear and the breast feathers don't have full detail (could be a soft strike). I say either AU-58 or MS63.

Scattered contact marks, nothing major, should grade MS63.

I would like to see it in hand, so I'm going to say MS-62 for this one.

I see wear above the ear in the hair. My guess is au55, slider maybe, but I just can't see ms. I have a coin with the same wear on here, listed "ms64?" and most said au55ish. I suck at grading, but that's what I see. Beautiful coin though

T3 is normally an abbreviation for Type Three but I've not seen it applied to Morgan dollars. Also, that is not rainbow toning but rather, album toning or rim toning. Anywhos, it looks MS63 easy and maybe 64.

I agree with the grades given and think it should be a lock for MS-63 and may have a shot at 64. Now with the grading, before TPG's started dealers would call their coins Gem when they were supposed to be MS-65 plus, they would use Choice BU for MS-63-MS-64, If they just called it BU that usually mean it was in the lower Uncirculated grades like MS-60-MS-62. At least this is how I have been told they did it back in the day. You don't see very many people using this old term except on ebay where they will not allow you to lost a grade unless its graded by a reputable TPG now, so they have reverted to this old term of guessing at what they call the grade and sometimes they are not correct because they are not dealers or sometimes not even collectors and don't know how to grade, they are just using a term they have heard others use

Yes that is correct gem is 65+, choice is 63 to 64, BU is any uncirculated grade but without a qualifier usually meanns 60 to 62

So the seller was using conflicting terms. Gem meaning 65+ and BU meaning MS 60-62. And it's not rainbow toning but rather album or rim toning. That's interesting didn't even know there was a difference in the type of toning except for AT. Wide difference in opinions on the grading. AU55ish to MS63 possibly 64. So I'm more or less skunked on the grade but not critical. Just kinda wanted something to put on the slab. I've started slabbing my raw coins just for continuity so I can put them all in the same album. Thanks for all of your feedback. Lots of good info there.
