I would like to sell off some off my duplicate coins and would like any advise on shipping. On a certain auction they can hold money for 21 days unless they see a delivery confirmation. My question is when you sell a few coins, how do you ship since 1st class mail does not have delivery confirmation as an option? Please advise.

You can ask for delivery confirmation on USPS 1st class mail ... I do this with all coins I ship.

Take a look at this USPS link:

I usually ship with either del confirmation or certified for envelopes and signature confirmation with parcels....on more expensive stuff it is the safest way to go.

You can't do delivery confirmation from the post office on 1st Class Envelopes. The key is to make it thick enough that it falls into the 1st Class Parcel category. Basically, it needs to be more than 3/4 in. thick - otherwise you have to send it Priority Mail to get DC.

If you ship via eBay/Paypal, they don't seem to have the same restriction.

So it's actually cheaper to send in a small box than a flat envelope if taking it to the post office. Makes no sense, but that's how it works.

Right, and if a 1st class flat slips through with DC on it then it will likely arrive at your customer's door with postage due for the difference to Priority. Not good.

Not exactly an answer to your question, but one other thing I'll do for more expensive items is insure it, but mayhbe not for the full value. I feel that the PO will handle more carefully if insured at all, but I may not want to pay the high fee of insuring for full value....it depends on the item, buyer, and destination though
