I am going to my first coin show this Thrusday. I am pretty much going to buy supplies since I have coins all over the computer desk, the table in the living room and the kitchen table (my wife doesn't like it ) Anyways other than the supplies is there anything I should look for? Any good deals or maybe something I can get cheap now that may be worth something later?

My love is Quarters, and to a slightly less extent the new dollar coins.

Howdy,

When my wife Lexi and I attended our first coin show recently we just looked at what was being offered and picked up a few things that we liked. That was very enjoyable.

There may be treasures awaiting, but if you purchase items that please you to own, you can't go wrong. By the way, you picked a good spot on the internet to hang out as these folks really know their stuff.

Be sure to tell us all about the time you spend at your first coin show. It's extremely fun, and be sure you stay there until you absolutely are ready to leave. I had to leave early on my first one, and I cannot wait for the next one since I don't feel like I got a full day there.

Quarters are fun to collect. Which ones do you have in your collection/plan to add to your collection?

My whole quarter craze started when I was little... I think it is because I loved playing pinball and other arcade games and when I was little they cost a quarter. For as long as I can remember though I always held onto quarters just because,(I still have the first quarter I ever remember finding) before I started collecting coins I would take my change in but always keep the quarters, or when my wife was a bartender I would buy the quarters off her at the end of the night, or if I was bowling that night I would buy them from her register before she cashed out. Right now I really like the State Quarters, I started collecting about 2 weeks ago and have 2 full sets and working on a third. I also am looking to get one of each quarter with each mint mark and go back as far as I can afford. I am also working on the Presidential dollars right now, there is something about the way they look that gets me. I also like the silver proof sets I seen at the US mint site but before I buy them I wanna see what they look like in person, which I plan on doing at this show. I also like 50 cent pieces but they are hard to come by for me.

First time I went to one, I just walked around and absorbed as much as possible, listened to conversations, was paying attention to what people were purchasing, and just basically getting an overall feel of what the show atmosphere is like. Most of all, have fun and let us know if you make any coin purchases. Most dealers at shows are willing to work with you on some of the prices, that's been my experience at least. Show etiquette is important too (don't interrupt transactions, don't pick up any coins without asking) Most dealers will open their case and say "grab it".
Have fun!
