1887 Indianhead Cent

I would like to ask for some of the pros help in grading this coin I recently came up on. I would like to send it in if it's high enough. Let me know what you think and if I should or shouldn't.

Pictures don't do that much justice. Almost mirrors like a proof. Wish I had a good camera. Thanks.

Looks cleaned/polished. I will say AU Details Harshly Cleaned and Retoned.

Note the fine concentric lines on the obverse:

Take some pictures out of the holder, sometimes the scratches on the holder can show up in the pictures...

I noticed the hairlines too. Cleaning might explain why the coin is so mirrorlike. MS copper shouldn't be that shiny unless it is, in fact, a proof.

For this coin I suspect the mirror appearance was caused by the cleaning but there is always an off chance it is an impaired proof. I don't know this date well enough to check the die characteristics perhaps someone can assist.

First glance I thought proof too! I don't know enough about the dies either to know for sure. Makes a big difference if it's a proof, value-wise!

Looks like it has been polished or whizzed perhaps. I can't really offer a grade as the reflections from the plastic container make it too difficult to judge whether there is rub or not in some areas. Could you take a pic and post it with the coin outside the container?

A picture of the rim could help in determining whether it is an impaired proof or not. Proofs will have sharp squared rims while business strike rims are rougher and more rounded.

Thanks everyone for the help. Took it to a coin dealer today ( nice guy ) and within 3-4 secs he said it was cleaned. It must have been done a long time ago because there was toning. He said too bad because it was in nice shape. :/

Contacted seller and got my full refund back. Glad I asked.
