Hello all,

I finally got around to checking out a bunch of 1964 P and D cents that I had set aside from recent roll searches, and I was amazed to find 4 doubled die reverses! Two were 1964D-1DR-001 and the other two are as follows. I believe them to be 1964P-1DR-005 as per coppercoins.

Usually, I am lucky to find one doubled die in six months, so 4 in one night sets a record that I'm sure will be hard to beat!!

Anyway, on to the pictures and good luck with your searches everyone!

John1,

I am certain that these are doubled dies. They match coppercoins' images and most of die markers are present. Neither of my examples exhibit the obverse die clash, but the other markers are there (die gouge on D of United, etc). The split serfs can clearly be seen in hand, however not necessarily in the photos:(. I do agree that some of the doubling looks very like MD, but the split serf's are there!

Mainman750,

Ok, I will get pic's taken of the 1964d-1DR-001's tonight and post them in the morning. Sorry about that, just too much going on. Thanks for the request!

Machine doubled. Markers only count if the doubled die/rpm is there first.

Okay, this looks like it could - COULD - be a doubled die, but the lighting is working against you instead of for you. When photographing doubled dies you want to position the coin so the light is stepping down the 'stairs' from the highest relief to the lower relief. You have your position opposite this. You want to create a shadow with the separation line, not a light bar. Turn the coin 180 degrees and try the shots again.

I just cannot tell from the images provided wheter I am looking at a worn doubled die or a case of Machine Doubling.

Ok guys,

Sorry about the bad photography, but I am ok with what I am seeing:). The best split serf is on the F of "of," but my photo does not show it well at all. I will try to get better photo's up, but it will take me a bit.

In the mean time.... I have pretty decent shots of one of my two examples of what I feel is 1964D-DDR-001. I will start a new topic with photo's of that. Thanks for your input everyone!
