Why doesn't this coin designate its weight on the coin itself? This seems like a rip-off to me.

Rip off? How can it be a rip off when it costs you nothing more than your time to order the thing? You pay no tax, no shipping, no markup. For $20 you get $20, in silver.

Thanks Hawk C026 and Canadian_Coins for the provided info and pictures. :)

Koin Hunter, I can't find the ebay Auction you specified; is it still listed? Isn't that a little much anyway? I thought a mintage this high wouldn't create much demand.

Nickel, for normal NCLT you are correct. 200,000 is something like 10x more than the usual mintage, if that many.

But make no mistake, the demand at the Mint will exist because there is no cost. This is an unusual situation.

What will happen on the secondary market? That I don't know for sure. I suspect it will not pick up any significant numismatic value, unless there are more released in the future.

I see, thanks. Well I'm just glad I was able to get my hands on some. There's some sense of relief in not having any idea what the outcome will be all the while knowing that I'm not going to end up losing any money. :)

Vinny, link to the rules are here:

http://www.mint.ca/store/content/mc...?cat=Masters Club

Quote:
Masters Club membership is achieved upon purchase of over $999.99CDN* on one or more purchases and valid for one year from the date that threshold is reached. Once membership expires, it will renew upon a subsequent qualification of purchases totaling over $999.99CDN.

In a capitalistic way of saying it, you need to buy your subscription.

Just phoned the Mint. I am not a Master Club Member. The girl I spoke to said I cold only get 3 coins then (I tried for 10). YMMV. Some people seem to get 10 without membership and some 3.

Thanks for the heads up Koin Hunter.

Thanks for the ebay link Koin Hunter.

I've actually purchased a few items from this seller over the years and his prices have always been great, but his buy it now price of $69.95 + $9.95 shipping for this coin is nuts.............anyone who buys one at that price needs to get their head examined!

Apologies if this listing belongs to any of the forum members.

Phoned my order in(1-800-267-1871),I too was only able to get 3.Only master club members can order 10 at present, but the rep said that one month after the date of issue(sometimes towards the end of February)if they aren't sold out the limit of 10 will be for everyone.

I called the boutique number, and the guy took my info, phone number and order. I'm picking it up at the mint as soon as its available.

Just wondering, did you all already pay and have coins being shipped?

LOL. "There is a sucker born every minute" theory of retail?

So, for something that costs $20 each, for up to 10, with no shipping, they mark it up US$49+ and add US$9.95 for shipping (+ currency exchange fees), and limit you to two at this extraordinary deal.

Libertad: Why should it designate it's weight? We don't have the weight listed on quarters or loonies. And do you think getting 2x$5 bills for a $10 to be a rip-off?
