Equipment, experience, patience and love for the hobby makes me do it. Also having a great coin to image helps a lot. BU coins are easy to get a great image of. Coin that are EDS are also great to get a very good image of. "A photo is only as pretty as it's model." (coop)

Nice find... I'm going to have to start looking at my coins a little more carefully. Does something like this worth anything? or just fun to collect? Granted I would love to have it, but it's probably not worth much to collectors? PS total noob here so I have no idea...

RPM's do carry a premium. They can go anywhere from a couple dollars to hundreds of dollars depending on the year, condition, and of course, the RPM.
coppercoins.com is great website to research for doubled dies and RPM's and he checks in here quite often and gives us advice for free!
Keep an eye out for him - you'll learn a lot.

Not to take away from any of our other resident pros, of course.
No offense coop - I've learned a ton from you, too!

coop, just curious...what glass do you usually shoot with. I gotta a D90 with 5lbs of glass but not a macro lens in the lot. Priced one yesterday...OUCH.

A macro lens will not help you with micrography - you have to have a microscope for that. I shoot all my micrography with a cheap coolpix camera and a microscope that cost under $400. I have a D80 with associated lenses to include a 50mm and 105mm macro lens, but neither will do any good pulling out flow lines and minor doubling on coins.

Thanks coppercoins, I need to spend some time in the photography forum here. I just scanned that one on the scanner after numerous failed attempts with the D90, phone, etc...
coop.....that is wicked cool.
