Hi. I found this 1958 D in a roll the other day and I notice that there's some extra action happening above the letters on both obverse and reverse at the tops of the coin. Makes me think of the trail dies type action. You can see metal looks "swooshed upwards" from the tops of the letters, especially in parts of In God We Trust ...

There's also a bit of an indent at the rim near the date, and the coin is slightly off center. Can anyone tell me what's going on with this coin overall, especially the "flippy" action?

Are you talking about the lines above the devices toward the rim. That is called die flow lines. The die show wear on the devices toward the rim. A closer image might show more about what your taking about.

Yes, thats what I'm talking about. The swooshing upwards from the tops of the letters towards the rim.

I have a very hard time getting closeups with the scanner as I can't see what I'm doing for resizing. Its such a tiny square and I can't see what I'm working on until its scanned. Wish I could work with a full page image to resize!! Instead I have to work with an image about a quarter of an inch square, if that much! Sorry. I'll keep trying though

Take a look at the top of the devices before it touches the rim. This is just what you are seeing.

Me too. I save ALL Lincoln's and even a few US nickels and dimes that I find in change or rolls. I find I like the pre 1960's US and Canadians best but check the newer dates for varieties or errors :)

Thanks again for all your help Coop
