Well ... you can't get older than a 1938 for a Jefferson ... so I assume you are asking in general what is the oldest coin of any denomination received in change?
For me ... that would be a 1916-D Buffalo received back in change at my local 7-11.

Nice find! Oldest nickel I have gotten was a 1939 in change, I've gotten two of them over the last month and a half.
I think I have better luck with them than any other coins.

I found a 1923 Buffalo nickel in my change purse at my coin club meeting several months ago of all places! I have no idea where I had got it though. I was very surprised and at my coin club!

1907 IHC....oldest cent. half a dozen or so Buffalo nickels, and one "V" Nickel or "Liberty" Nickel one Franklin half in a roll of Kennedy halfs '64 Silver Washington Silver Rosies..several found All found "roll searching".....it's fun, if you search enough coins, you'll find some treasures eventually with ANY denomination (though some are harder to find keepers vs. others).

Oldest for me was a '38 nickel. My wife came home with a 1920 Buffalo nickel a few weeks ago. That was the same week she got a wheatie from the 50s and an early 40s Jefferson nickel. I should have had her pick up some halves from the bank, with that kind of a streak going on.
