*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I belong to several law enforcement forums(yes I am a cop) ,and they all have ask a cop,and we get hit with the same old same old every day from civilians. We try to remind ourselves that what is common sense and mundane to us,is rocket science to them. That beiong said, can someone give me legitimate info on this Morgan? It is the best of a couple that I own. Also, since signing up and reading several posts,I have gone digging and found a few of my hidden old coins.Tried coin collecting eons ago but got bored, now with the internet, looks like it could be fun again.

More fun here than on cop forums anyway.

Wasn't necessary to tell us that. Kind of obvious.
Just sort of kidding. Your photos are a real lot better than what appears here all the time.
Meanwhile, your coin. Those are rather common since over 11 million were minted. Still almost any Silver Dollar is worth a lot more than a Dollar. Yours would sell for about $25 to $40, rough guess.
If you have more coins that you are wondering about, keep on posting here with what you have. Amazing how much you could learn from non law people.
One more thing is as you cruise around, try for a coin store and ask for a copy of the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Virtually millions and millions are sold every year. Reall full of info on US coins but really poor for pricing.

legitimate info on this Morgan

Wonder why you used that wording?

Welcome! This is likely get moved to the "classic" forum. You'll get lots of info I sure.

I agree that the connecting with others makes it more interesting then sitting alone in the coin cave. In the old days you had to travel to connect, now it's just a click away.

There's photo section, check it out, cool stuff in there.

it looks like the Morgan you have has had a plating job done to it. Not sure but may have been plated Gold or something, but it looks like most of it has flaked off of the coin

Great to see a buncha wise-en-himers(sp) in here also,The reason I used that wording was I live in BFE and cannot trust a soul. The nearest legit (not a silver melter) is about 70 miles away,Had one "expert" tell me it was worth about $3 but he would give me 5,thanks sport..That is why I think I am going to enjoy it here.Imagine, another off duty hobby besides drinking beer, well, than again.......

to the community.

This is the place to go to learn and get info on coins. As it has been pointed out this is a common date Morgan, but still a nice coin to have in a collection. This coin looks to grade at EF-45.

From a retired LEO. Thanks and be safe.

and my son's a cop, my daughter-in-law's a former cop, and my nephews a cop.

There may be a bunch of wisenheimers here, but they'll give you the right info. And, (I can't resist because this drives my son nuts) "that's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth officer!"

I-Hate-Myself--But

You might have to rattle a few cages once in a while (and please do), but you'll get the right info. Once again, welcome!

Welcome to the Community, man. I hate to say it, but you're going to need to deploy your street radar at maximum gain in this hobby - there's a long track record of failure-to-prosecute along with tremendous upside in quick profit from the uninformed; as a result, we have more than our share of bad guys in numismatics. Fortunately, your only required armament is knowledge, and there's a bunch of that in stock here.

The only stupid question is the unasked one. We've chosen the path of concentrating on new collectors here at Coin Community.

WELCOME..I too think the coin was plated at one time.. the residual effects, are noticed within the lower points of the coin.. in the eye..and cotton bowls... and the flakes are seen as almost rectangular spots of color missing from the over all appearance..
if you can't have fun then why not post some dirt LOL.....
Rest in Peace

A big part of the "fun" of this forum, is everybody's sense of humor ! ....
But of course, primarily, it's the most informative coin forum stacked with knowledge filled experts in any coin area you could dream of !

Have fun and see ya on the boards !
