a few questions from anyone that can answer. Since I started roll searching I have had an interest in keeping any and all dates of good quality that I come across, especially those of older dates. I have read a lot about people filling there books with the different mints. Any suggestions on books, or collecting techniques of coins that hold no real value. I had some coins as a kid in the basic pop in books and they seemed to lose integrity. anything out there that would keep them in good shape, or do you just keep them in 2X2's. also, when searching for doubled die's, if I see something in my loupe that looks potential but only on one number or letter, should I pass it by. I'm assuming from what I have read on DD's, that there would be doubling on multilple area's, not just one letter or number?

Dansco albums are really cool, they protect your coins and allow you to view both sides. Google it!

It helps to sort your coins by year, then you can cross reference what you are looking at very easily with your books or coppercoins. It is important to know that there are many other pickup points other than doubling in text, so don't look only at the numbers and letters. Most varieties don't involve doubling at all!

For coins you are pulling from rolls, I would not put them in a Dansco album. I would take your finds, and put them in 2X2's, the staple type holders, label your find, and box it. There are specific boxes made for 2X2's. If you want to put them in a Dansco album, that is ultimately your choice. I'm just throwing in my 2 cents!
I reserve Dansco Albums for sets you are building and the more expensive coins.
A cool book for roll searches IMO, is "strike it Rich with Pocket Change" by Ken Potter. It has most of the varieties to look for.

Even Dansco albums turn coins. I prefer to keep mine in 2X2's better.

I'm not convinced that the albums themselves do anything to the coins. It is how they are placed in the album and stored that matters most I imagine. If you are breathing or touching all over the plastic sliders, or cleaning them with chemicals, then sure your coins are going to tone. I've got a set of nickels that have been in a dansco for over 30 years, and there is not the slightest bit of discoloration.

Besides, if you are talking about a very nice way of presenting a penny set, then a Dansco is a good idea. You can get a whole set of LMC in BU for $20, so its not like if your pennies turn a bit that it is the end of the world.

Watch the staples in the 2x2s, they can ruin your coins.

Here is one that turned in my book. It had been there a number of years.

Also the sliding the plastic over the coins can also mar them.
