Got one from one guy last month after I sent him a bonus coin along with some stuff because of some confusion: he got the stuff for LESS than melt! He refused to work with me even though I offered to let him keep the stuff and refund everything.

Got another one because some guy is too dumb not to open packages with a hammer...never ever had anyone complain about my packing.

So what do I do guys...I'm trying to get the top rated seller ranking over time, but I keep getting stuck with these chumps...

For one, block that buyer.Sometimes there is nothing you can do if they refuse to work with you.Does 99.7 hold you back from top rated ?

It is the detailed seller ratings mostly because the criteria is lopsided with only 98% FB needed (easy) but the DSR requirements are ridiculous...I got some lower ratings in retaliation because people were angry at me over email and bought from me to bring me down...plus one guy I wouldn't refund after he bought junk silver from me and complained about it being junk. I think that was in July, or something. I got a negative from him. There was a whole thread about it awhile ago.

But basically, when you're at a lower number, one or two nitpickers plus a couple retaliatory ratings can bring you down. I got booted off power seller too for having 4 low ratings for item as described, at least 2 of retaliatory and the 3rd from that guy with the junk silver. My rating for item as described is something like 4.89 /rolleyes

It will take a while to get it up, but I'm not sure the 2% is worth the effort. I lost mine because I slowed down on selling...I'm holding onto a bunch of silver for a while.
I think it does pay to be very careful when emailing some of these unscrupulous sellers as retaliation goes right along with their morals. I point out that I see a mistake and leave it at that.

You get a 20% discount or something, it seems worth it for someone like me because I may start selling a lot eventually. Same here. With this certain guy, I was not insulting (just assertive) and he lashed out on me. This guy is a top rated seller...

I feel your pain- I've gotten neutrals and negatives too from people who just won't work with you and people who don't read auctions. There are difficult people out there, to be sure! Not worth getting upset about it though.

If you do enough volume and treat the customeres right and be pleasant in response to emails, you will get repeat buyers. I have some sellers I really enjoy going back to over and over.

Had one complain about a hairline scratch...told him no problem, return it for a refund. He entered a negative and said I didn't respond. ebay did nuke that one but it took an act of congress.Always use ebay messages so they have record. Yes the 20% and 2% are the same thing Shadow...seller fees are reduced from 9% to 7%...there are other venues but ebay is almost a guaranteed sale. And mycrob has a point...I even have buyers that will buy from me privately now but it takes a while to get to that point.

I find that sometimes the best way to get rid of the dumb negs is to buy from the person who negged you...I had this one person give me one for absolutely no reason in a similar way to you maineman, and I tried to contact them and they ignored me. So I just bought from them and asked them again to remove the negative, and they got the message : )

I guess its not very 'nice', but hey, what can ya do?

I won a Morgan from this seller back in Dec/2010, still haven't received my coin.
After e-mailing him several times,I finally told him I would contact ebay if He did not replay.
So he did, telling me there was no point in replying because as hes said (What was he suppose to do)
I have email this guy many time always being nice and polite, and still no coin.
I still have not given a negative feed back hoping he will wake up
and stop telling me all about his problems and fix mine.
After all I am out the money, I just cant figure him out he has never offered any help in any way.

So you packaged it very well and the buyer had a hard time getting the coin out, so he gives you a neutral for this? Sometimes you just can't win, and stuff like this is one of the reasons I don't enjoy selling on ebay any longer.

My post was in response to the OP, not you acan. His feedback reflected someone giving him a neutral because the buyer had apparently a hard time getting the coin he won out of the package. That indicates to me that it was packed very well and securely so IMO a neutral feedback was not warranted. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
