I have my first ebay coin return situation hitting. What feedback, if any, do you leave when you return a coin? Is it different if they've already left positive feedback for you? I really should slam the seller, but I'm not sure that's appropriate if the return goes smoothly. Thanks.

I have returned a few coins in the past 3 years, but I just said in the feedback that the coin was returned and refund was issued. I didn't leave negative feedback since I got a refund. But, I know it's tempting to leave negative feedback.

I wouldn't leave any feedback until the return is complete and you have your money back. Then I would leave a polite positive or neutral saying the buyer properly honored their return policy. Leaving an early negative feedback may hurt your chances of getting the money back. I don't feel a negative is warranted if the seller was reasonable and accepting of the return.

If you are having doubts, then a negative or neutral probably isn't needed or appropriate. Let the emotion go away and look at the whole transaction before posting a neg/neutral feedback. I normally don't post anything when I'm disappointed in a transaction. I reserve negatives for those who intentionally lie, cheat or steal.

It's just like a department store- you didn't like something and you return it and they honor the return and you get something else. No need for it to be a negative feedback kind of transaction. You just didn't like what you got and the seller honorred the return policy. Some sellers have a no return policy, so you should feel grateful in that sense. If return goes through smoothly, leave a positive and don't say much.

I wait for the return to be complete. Fortunately I have not been too burned. But if everything goes well I usually leave a positive feedback saying no problems, good customer service. Afterall we are buying and bidding on a photo. I have also sent back coins when the photos were excellent but the coin looked very different in hand.

If the return goes smoothly I always leave a positive. Usually something like "good transaction, reliable seller". If I feel the seller has purposely misrepresented the coin but returns my $ I don't leave any feedback. I almost never bid on items that do not have a return policy with the exception being bullion type items, Bob

I agree with the above posters. Wait until the transaction is complete. Feedback should be the very last thing that you consider.
As long as a return goes smoothly and the seller is civil about it, I'll always leave a positive. A solid return policy is part of good customer service.
You always have the option of not leaving ANY feedback if you just can't bring yourself to leave a positive, but feel a neutral/negative isn't warranted either.
In my opinion, neutrals and negatives should be reserved only for the most heinous of transactions. Feedback that you leave for others is more important and a lot more revealing about how you are to do business with than feedback you receive. You can tell a lot about a person by how and what they write. As a seller, I've blocked bidders with 100% positive feedback when I've looked at the feedback they've left for others and can see they are liberal with handing out unwarranted neutrals and negatives for other sellers or write negative comments in a positive feedback. This can be an indicator that person is difficult to deal with and I'll block them to save me a potential headache.

Same here, neutral and negatives are for sellers that will not refund or attempt to make the transaction right...and like cwb8539, I block the difficult buyers every time I see or hear of them. After all, when I sell, I have a return policy and I don't claim to be an expert.I feel that's about as good as it gets.If buyers are expecting expert service, then they should go to the dealer and pay for it.

I always leave a positive feedback if the return is honored. If he doctored a pic I may allude to misrepresentation politely. Others that bother to check will see the light. nlp

I've return a few coins last year. If the seller is pleasant and prompt with communication and the refund I leave a positive. I feel not everyone has the same interpretation of a coin grade, and sometimes silver eagles graded a 70 by even top grading companies get milk spots.

I always leave positive unless they've been intentionally misrepresenting things, lying, etc. As long as they're reasonable they get pos. Unfortunately some people are not like that and have left me bad feedback without any good reason...

I agree, with the others, a full and smooth refund are grounds for a positive in the vast majority of cases.

Thanks everyone. Thus far, the seller has been communicative, cooperative and apologetic. When the refund hits, I'll most certainly leave positive feedback. My knee jerk reaction was to the use of Choice BU in the description when the coin was neither BU nor Choice. It had obvious wear in hand that wasn't fully evident in the pictures. But...that's why I only buy from sellers with return privileges. Your opinions offered here helped!

i dont think negative feedback should be left if they return your money. neutral at most! but bad feedback hurts sellers so I hate to do it.
