I disagree with the statement that the people who plate and sell those type of coins should be treated as crooks. They have the right to price the coins at however high they want and there are people who know the true value of these and buy them as novelties or as gifts, and the seller is describing the coins accurately. I don't see any ulterior motive or overly shady actions on the seller's part.

I'm with wheatguy...people like what they like...and if they don't know any better, why not require them to seek an education in coins before they are allowed to purchase them ? That's just the way the world works, if you're too lazy to shop around or compare, you pay...it goes for almost anything,cars,houses,food,clothing,etc..

nonono maine, you two are a pair of coldhearted...we can't just let people go around buying these things and getting themselves ripped off! if only the gov were to set up stocks of books where people could go to educate themselves for free, or some sort of interconnected 'web,' if you will, to allow information to be shared between millions of computers. but of course this will never happen, because people like YOU guys don't want to pay more taxes. hmm...

obla, not everyone wants to get educated. They just aren't as serious about the coins as some of us are.
If your mother bought you a set of those for Christmas or your birthday because she knew you collected coins, would you bust her bubble and tell her she just bought a bunch of junk? Or would you just say thank you because it's the thought that counts?

It's not criminal, but it sure is in bad taste. Not as bad as the guys that try to be vague/shady with the whole one ounce (not troy) and one pound of silver sales. Or especially the fake coin people!

Northwest I just clicked the ebay you mentioned and checked out the other items this person sells, seems all are buy now,not a bid item. I have gotten catalogs, letters, ads etc. in the mail with these items listed for sale.Somehow I got onto a mailing list and now my postal mail box is over flowing with junk mail.My name is on every page and I have to shred pages and fill the local land fill with this garbage. I call the 800# and ask to be removed from the mailing list, still get them.Daily Yes they do have clocks with State qtrs.,pictures, frames etc.you name it it's out there.Even 24k gold glad Kennedy's,Lincoln's and Mercury dimes and 24k gold clad Nat. Park qtrs.,it's insane and I'm going nuts with all the ads. gasman96

To be honest its not the seller fault that people will throw away there money on something stupid like that. When people have disposable income they will always buy dumb stuff that they have no use or little use for, why you think 99cent/dollar stores make so much money everyone buys stupid stuff and I may be one of them but I would never buy that but I did get these as it interested me a bit. Dont ask me why either, just is different http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:IT

Yeah once you make someone's "list" good luck getting off it. On another note, back when the first State Quarters came out Someone started colorizing them and selling sets. I remember seeing an add on TV. I own a set of those, no they weren't a gift, no I didn't steal them, and no I didn't buy them... well sort of. I got them in one of my change machines at work. I figured someone probably got them for a gift and was so disgusted they dropped them in the quarter slot of my changer. I figured what the heck and shelled out .25 cents a piece.

I remember a TV show where a guy was selling "Bronze medallion of the 16th US President" for $35 each (He would then ship them a penny) and ended up getting arrested. Not sure if that would ever happen in reality, but it is pretty similar to this rubbish.

Quote:These coins are not available from the U.S. Mint. They are genuine State Quarters that are struck by the U.S. Mint, but the Mint does not have the capacity to gold-plate coins or add holograms. Like if they had the capacity the US mint would do this. Allllritey then!
