murrelington:

i set a buy it now of $50. and had best offer options.

gathering my research from ebay, I have seen that not many sold for actual melt value ($75 respectively)

i did not want to short myself and have only bidding. I did that once and only sold a box for $30 or so..

i encourage you to set a price close to melt and take best offers. I am happy with $25 profit.

i will take that cash and go buy myself a nice commemorative! =)

Interesting thread... I just started roll searching and separating. Keeping anything that piques my interest and was actually wondering if it was worth posting a sale or if I should just bring back to the bank... I may just feel the waters here and see what I can get for them...

SDcoinguy: so when you get a $25 box full of coppers, you just tape up that box and fit it into the medium flatrate box? does it matter if it slides around in the flatrate box? cause the penny box is much smaller.

We had 346 lbs. of pennies to sell. The only effort was getting them rolled and separated into groups. The Wheaties will sell quickly on ebay for melt value plus. If you will wait a while or figure $5.00 a roll with a make offer and they will be gone over night if you accept the offers. People are rabid beyond belief when it comes to coins. We wound up with 50,000 pennies, gave my 2 granddaughters 3000 each. We sold 44,000+ as soon as they were rolled. No problem. Have fun.

Btw. There are about 3 rolls to a pound, and using priority mail with a 70 pound limit for a large box. The cost of shipping will not phase the buyer if you only charge what it costs. If you try to use parcel post it costs more than priority mail in this case. From experience use priority mail for two or more rolls you can use first class for one roll but it will still cost about $4.00. Hope this helps. Been there done that. LOL

good info, but I don't want to put all of the pennies in rolls. I want to sell them raw like in a box. too much time to roll.

Not a wise idea to just pour the cents into the box. The post office workers are like you and me. They have good days and bad days. The bad days will show on your boxes. I just got one from ebay...5000 wheats. Medium flat rate box. The seller hardly had any tape on it. The box got smashed and broke open...but the wheats were in rolls and placed in two different plastic bags, 2500 a piece, which were then put into two more plastic bags each. If not for the bags...I would have got an empty box! There's nothing better than a repeat customer!

My question is how the heck do you count 'em? I'm sitting on several hundred pounds and thinking about just selling by weight once I get a fairly accurate scale.

lol, yeah that's what I'm planning on doing. its not like I getthousands of coppers a week to sell. I get about 400 coppers per box, so it will take quite a few boxes to get 25 dollars face value of coppers.

but how about pouring the coppers in a bag and tape it up, then put in the flat rate?
