I have several notes I inherited indirectly through my father that my grandfather collected when he was in New Guinea during WWII. One that caught my eye is a Nederlandsche-Indie 50 cent that is numbered FA000325. Does a lower number make it more valuable or is it not an issue...

G'day, a low number and in good condition will attract a premium, but a low number wouldn't help a note in a poor grade.
Nederlandsche-Indie, or in English, the Netherlands East Indies, became "Republik Indonesia" in 1945.
Does your note have a date on it ?

Sorry about taking so long to get back to you, combination of lost internet and swine flu, which may indirectly cause another loss of internet, grrr.
The bill's date is van 2 maart 1943, no1 stbl.d8

I obtained a similar note recently.
What remains a mystery to me - and I intend to research it, but that task is suffering from "competing priorities" -
is this:
in 1943, the Netherlands had been occupied by Germany for quite a while; and
the N.E.I. had been occupied by Japan for a year; so -
who was printing these notes ?
whom was it that they were intended to be used by ?
and, how were they actually used ?
