I would like someones opinion on these coins. Are they toned or not?
forgive the picture quality this is my first attempt. All of these coins have a yellow/gold hue on one side but not on the other. I'm guessing it something to do with the plastic case but I would like to hear what someone else has to say about this.
thanks

This looks like the 2004P BU Set - standard 7 coins issued @ 23.95 (oh-canada set). Over 53,000 sets were minted.

Unlikely that anyone removed the coins for the purpose of toning. There would also be major evidence. In your set it appears the plastic is intact.

The other possibility is a forgery using regular circulation coins, but the coins look about right for this set.

The possibility of some sort of chemical reaction but I have not seen anything like this on any of similar sets I've had. I am not a chemist so I don't know what could cause this (sun exposure?).

Can you tell if the discoloration is on the coins? Maybe the plastic has colored?

Boy do I feel stupid. I cut the coins out of the holder and sure enogh they were a perfectly normal colour, the plastic had yellowed.
Timsumrall and Two Cents you were right on.

Thanks everyone for helping me clear up this mystery.

I'd bet a wooden nickel that these coins spent some time either in the post office display case, or a dealer display case, and were exposed to natural daylight on the reverse side (reverse side "up" being fairly usual practice)for some time, yellowing the plastic in the process.

Yeah your probably right 1cent.

Before I realized it was just the plastic I felt that I had some pretty cool coins there ....at least for a while.
