No, that's a lamination peel with some wear after the effect.

So a lamination peel can leave the devices intact under the peel ? That's something I could never have guessed without expert advice. Thanks

Yes, that would be a delamination(same thing as a peel). Devices in the affected area will still be legible but soft and weak when compared to the unaffected areas.

And struck through would lose the devices ?

A coin struck through something that large would more than likely have serious loss of detail but another diagnostic is the grain of the metal that can be seen under the peel. The affected area would be smoother if it were struck through something and if texture was present(such as being struck through wood splinters) it would be more sharply defined.
Another thing to note is that Lincolns with alloy issues are affected at a greater rate than coins with a more homogeneous alloy, you can see some of the lighter brassy streaks of woodgrain on the obv.

Thanks biokemist for taking the time to explain the "whys". I know everybody doesn't have time to go into detail, but the details are necessary for anyone who wants to move to the next level.I've noticed the alloy issues on older cents especially.

I think so too oldcoach, just so you know, this wasn't a roll find.It was an ebay find, 10 error cents for $5...three of them were off center coins, this one,a 36 woody, and the rest were PMD or MD.Just one of those "whim" purchases.

I work in the steel industry...and see some BIG-TIME laminations. Yours, I suspect may have peeled off before it was struck by the dies. Leaving a semi-clear strike. To me it looks like the metal was gone before hand. It is COOL.
