ebay Name: larcoin listing id: 170601541864proof : https://goccf.com/t/79559Claimed he was an old timer and selling his collection finally after years. I bought it a while back and I got my refund after finding out the coin was cleaned and pitted. I thought whatever maybe he just got a bad coin. I found out that he is still selling these coins. After a closer look he is buying regular indian heads > cleaning them > then selling them. Now I have reported to ebay and I doubt they will do anything but if there are quite a number of people maybe it can stop him for sometime. People are getting scammed and that it isn't right. He has gotten away with it long enough.

No, it's not right. But, there is really nothing you can do except to avoid this seller. Yeah, that coin is cleaned and no reverse picture. How can this coin even sell and even more, without a reverse picture! I guess these bidders have mental telepathy.

Agree that there is not much you can do..it is not illegal to clean coins or even against ebay policy. He has a return policy....return shipping is a small price to pay for an education.

you know what they say - caveat emptor. The only reason people like this make a living on ebay is because others keep buying from them

I have a better one. How about a basic Numismatic knowledge test as a prerequisite to buying :o

The only thing about it is...people are free to buy and enjoy cleaned coins. There was a time when cleaning was almost acceptable and done regularly...I can tell you some dealers were famous for it.

Quote: There was a time when cleaning was almost acceptable and done regularly...I can tell you some dealers were famous for it. I recently saw a nearly complete set of Lincolns (missing 09S and 09S VDB) that had some harsh cleaning on the 14D and 31S, among others. Apparently the way to "shine" up your Lincolns a few decades ago was to rub them real hard on your shag carpet until they were shiny again. That's what happened to these.
