Hi - I received this Aso Medal mixed in with a coin collection from a relative who was in WWII but also collected coins until his death in 2000. Can anyone tell me anything about this medal? Date? Purpose? Is it worth anything? It measures 1 3/8" in diam., is quite heavy for its size, Says National Park - Memory of Aso. Which I found was a volcano in a Nat park in Japan. Does this have anything to do with WWII?

G'day & welcome,
looks like a souvenir-piece. It also appear that there might be something inscribed, or impressed, above and around the word "SILVER". I can't make it out, but perhaps someone else can ?

I have been looking at this with a jewelers loup and just realized that the 1592m looks like it has been doublestruck (if that is what you call it). I know that refers to the height of the volcano Mount Aso and is not a date. The faint numbers underneath look much thinner than the obvious numbers. Really curious to find out what the age of this piece really is.
